Neuropeptide FF receptors

Neuropeptide FF (NPFF) is an octapeptide belonging to the RFamide family of peptides and is the endogenous ligand for the G protein-coupled receptors, NPFFR1 and NPFFR2.  NPFFR1 is broadly distributed in the central nervous system, with the highest levels found in the limbic system and the hypothalamus, and NPFFR2 is present in high density in the superficial layers of the spinal cord.   Neuropeptide FF and opioid systems have been shown to interact at several levels with nociception, pain modulation and the modulation of opioid functions being most extensively studied.   Neuropeptide FF receptors also have roles in anxiety, reward, locomotion, intestinal motility, neuroendocrine regulation, cardiovascular regulation, body temperature homeostasis and feeding.
