Thanatin
Cat. No. AM-410
Structure:

Activity:
Thanatin is an inducible cationic antimicrobial peptide (AMP) that was first isolated from the insect Podisus maculiventris (spined soldier bug), a species of stink bug common in North America. Thanatin is a potent antibacterial and antifungal agent, with more than one mechanism of antimicrobial activity. Its antibiotic activity has been most thoroughly characterized against E. coli where it interferes with multiple pathways, including binding to the lipopolysaccharide export system proteins LptA and LptD, disrupting the lipopolysaccharide transport (LPT) complex formation and inhibiting cell wall synthesis and microbial growth. Thanatin exhibits activity against a broad range of pathogens including Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and also possesses potent antifungal activity against Neurospora crassa, Botrytis cinerea, Nectria haematococca, Trichoderma viride, Alternaria brassicicola, and Fusarium culmorum.
