New antifungal peptoids from MTSU

Isca are pleased to announce three novel lipopeptoids with potent antifungal activity, licensed from Middle Tennessee State University. These are AEC5, which rapidly reduces fungal burden in infected macrophages against C. neoformans with complete elimination of viable fungi within 3 hours, and the optimised derivatives β-5 and γ-2 which have improved potency and decreased toxicity. In mouse models AEC5 has an in vivo half-life of >20 hours and no observable toxicity following 28 days of daily injections. These new antifungal peptoids have the advantages of peptide like antimicrobial properties combined with increased in vivo stability towards protease breakdown. As such AEC5, β-5 and γ-2 have potential clinical applications as well as being novel research tools.
