δ Opioid receptors
The δ-opioid receptor, or delta opioid receptor, often abbreviated DOR or DOP, is an inhibitory 7-transmembrane G-protein coupled receptor coupled to the G protein Gi/G0 which has enkephalins as its endogenous ligands. In the CNS, δ opioid receptors are primarily distributed in the olfactory bulb, nucleus accumbens, caudate putamen and neocortex, with lower levels present in the thalamus, hypothalamus and brainstem. δ opioid receptors play a role in analgesia, motor integration, gastrointestinal motility, olfaction, respiration, cognitive function and also in mood disorders such as anxiety and depression.
