Tachykinin receptors
Tachykinin peptides constitute one of the largest peptide families with more than 40 tachykinins identified from invertebrate and vertebrate species. In mammals, three prototypical tachykinins have been isolated from neuronal tissue: substance P, neurokinin A and neurokinin B. Three main tachykinin receptor subtypes have been characterised, NK1, NK2 and NK3. Tachykinins are involved in multiple diseases processes including acute and chronic inflammation and pain, fibrosis, affective and addictive disorders, disorders of the intestine and bladder, infection and cancer.
