Anticancer peptide derived from auracyanin B
AurB is a novel cell-penetrating peptide, derived from the helical motif of of the bacterial cupredoxin auracyanin B (residues 61–88 ), AurB selectively enters human prostate cancer cells and localizes to mitochondria, where it blocks energy production by targeting ATP synthase, thereby significantly inhibiting tumour growth. In mice, combination treatment with aurB and radiation therapy significantly inhibits tumour growth in a tibial bone metastasis model, moreover the number of lung metastatic lesions is also significantly lower. Multiplex RNA expression profiling revealed that the inhibition of ATP production by aurB increases the efficacy of radiation therapy by modulating multiple pathways involving HIF-1α.
