BigLEN (mouse)
Cat. No. GP-010
Structure:
Activity:
BigLEN (mouse) is a neuropeptide that is derived from the precursor peptide ProSAAS and is the endogenous agonist for the previously orphaned GPR171 receptor. BigLEN (mouse) is one of the most abundant neuropeptides in the brain, and it modulates feeding related behaviours within the hypothalamus. The BigLEN-GPR171 system is widely expressed in the basolateral amygdala (BLA) and has also been shown to have an important role in the pathology of anxiety and mood disorders.
Wardman et al (2011) ProSAAS-derived peptides are colocalized with neuropeptide Y and function as neuropeptides in the regulation of food intake. PLoS One 6(12) e28152 PMID: 22164236
Gomes et al (2013) GPR171 is a hypothalamic G protein-coupled receptor for BigLEN, a neuropeptide involved in feeding. Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 110(40) 16211 PMID: 24043826
Bobeck et al (2017) The BigLEN-GPR171 Peptide Receptor System Within the Basolateral Amygdala Regulates Anxiety-Like Behavior and Contextual Fear Conditioning. Neuropsychopharmacology 42(13) 2527 PMID: 28425495
