Antimicrobial
PR 26 is the first 26 amino acid residues of the amine terminus of the functional antimicrobial domain of PR 39 (AM-110), the proline-rich cathelicidin host defence and immunomodulatory peptide isolated from porcine polymorphonuclear neutrophils. PR 26 is as least as potent as PR 39 against enteric gram negative bacteria and potentiates neutrophil phagocytosis of Salmonella choleraesuis and decreases the level of S. typhimurium invasion into intestinal epithelial cells, however PR 26 does not lyse cells by pore-forming mechanisms.
