Desacyl-ghrelin

Desacyl-ghrelin, also known as [des-octanoyl]-ghrelin (human) is a form of ghrelin which lacks acyl-modification at the third serine residue of ghrelin. Originally desacyl-ghrelin was considered to be just an inactive form of ghrelin but a recent review in Peptides shows desacyl-ghrelin to have various biological activities in its own right, including control of food intake, growth hormone, glucose metabolism, and gastric movement, and it is also involved in cell survival.
